There is a commonly held misconception that all chiropractors do is crack your back and any potential benefit from seeing one is restricted to just your spine and neck. However, neck and back pain barely scratches the service of what we can help with.
What do we do?
Chiropractors gently manipulate the spine to treat musculo-skeletal problems and help recover strength, mobility and posture which in turn eases pain you may be feeling.
How does this help me?
The central nervous system runs from your brain and down your spine before then travelling to other areas of the body. If the signal sent from your brain is interrupted in any way at all then it can have a negative affect on your overall health. The pain felt from spinal issues are not limited to the spine and neck, but can have ramifications that travel all over the body.
Similarly, the symptoms from issues with your spine are not limited to joint and muscle pain. In the past we have successfully treated patients with digestive issues, dizziness, shortness of breath and many other symptoms.
By manipulating the spine and getting rid of these ‘road blocks’ we can reduce irritation and swelling which in turn can alleviate the symptoms mentioned above.
Does it work?
Chiropractic treatment has been around for over 100 years. There is now a governing body in the UK, the BCA. It is currently classed as a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) according to the NHS, which means it’s not a conventional medical treatment. However, there are plenty of studies which show that chiropractic treatment to be affective. For example a study published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine done on 40 participants found after receiving a cervical adjustment, pulse rates decreased, blood pressure balanced and there was a significantly positive parasympathetic response.
And simply from a first-hand perspective, Morley Chiropractic Clinic have successfully treated hundreds of people from Leeds, Wakefield and Bradford for a range of issues.
